A passion for the outdoors - especially skiing - has inspired Mark to spend much of his free time as a youth ski instructor across the country.

Richard Paul

Richard Paul is the President and Portfolio Manager of Potomac Advisors, Inc., an investment management firm. Mr. Paul is an active member of the Investment Committee and, through a license agreement with Potomac Fund Management, supplies analysis, research, and judgment to the money management process.

Rich's career began in the 1960s as an engineer, where his expertise and interest in testing, analyzing and improving the accuracy of ballistic missile delivery systems provided the basis for development of the computer aided risk/reward analysis that are fundamental to the techniques used in Potomac's asset management strategies.

Having begun investing in mutual funds in the late sixties, Rich became disillusioned with the stock market after the 1970s bear market. Upon opening his IRA in 1979, he began successfully applying and refining his active risk management techniques to provide a more stable and superior risk-adjusted return. While working at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory, Rich began managing an investment partnership he formed with his co-workers using these techniques. The success he had in managing money for others, and with his own IRA, led to his formation of Potomac Fund Management in 1987.

Outside of the investment world, Rich is an avid tennis player and reef aquarist, collecting and preserving fish and coral specimens from around the world.. Rich also volunteers mentoring young students who have an interest in mathematics.

Rich is a graduate of New York University, holding a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering.
