Benefits and Perks
Before we get into it, what is the point of a use it or lose it PTO policy? You only have a certain amount of time each year that vanishes if unused. We hear many parents will have a ton of vacation days saved up at the end of the year. Why? They don’t want to use all their PTO if their kid gets sick and they need to stay home.
We think that’s a horrible way to live, which is why we decided the best PTO policy is not to have one. You’re an adult and will be treated as such, so take as much time as you need to tend to your family and get your mind right—we want you to enjoy your life.
Even with our unlimited PTO policy, we still have a job to do and expect it to get done.
Salary and Bonus
Everyone at Potomac is 100% compensated on salary and bonus payments. We don’t pay any commissions. Our bonus structure is discretionary and built around completing KPIs, such as projects AUM and client satisfaction milestones.
We don’t artificially reduce salary and replace it with a fluctuating bonus system. A bonus is not ongoing compensation and shouldn’t be viewed as such. The amount we can share with employees varies, and sometimes there is no bonus at all.
Medical insurance is provided via United Healthcare. The company pays 100% of the individual premium and 50% of the family premium. Every year, open enrollment is in January, with new coverage beginning March 1.
Dental insurance is provided via Guardian. The company pays 100% of the individual premium, and the employee pays 100% of the family premium. Again, every year, open enrollment is in January, with new coverage beginning March 1.
Health Savings Account (HSA)
A health savings account (HSA) is a tax-advantaged account for people enrolled in an HSA-eligible high-deductible health plan (HDHP). Money is contributed pre-tax and accumulates each year that you’re enrolled—no expiration.
HSAs are used to pay for eligible health expenses, including some dental and vision costs.
Potomac contributes $50 per month.
Potomac matches dollar-for-dollar, up to 6%, of your salary that you contribute to the plan. For instance, an employee who earns $100,000 can contribute any amount, up to the maximum allowed by regulations, towards their 401(k). Potomac will match the first 6% or $6,000/year of those contributions. You are eligible to enroll in the 401(k) plan within 30 days of employment, and the plan is immediately 100% vested.
In addition, Potomac offers discretionary profit sharing through our retirement plan based on firm goals and achievements.
Home Office Setup
We want you to be as comfortable as possible with all the necessary equipment to produce the best work. Potomac will provide all the electronics your job needs including, a laptop, a docking station, two monitors, a headset, lights, a microphone, etc.

- Want a new, cool desk? If it makes you happy, it’s yours.
- Want to furnish your entire office like Martha Stewart? Get lost!

Humanizing Remote Work
We understand the fun part about being in a traditional office is the human interaction, whether you’re going to lunch with a coworker or grabbing drinks after work. So, to help re-create this feeling, as best we can remotely, we offer the following perks:

Potomac will pay up to $100/month for your home internet connection. We encourage everyone to get the fastest speed money can buy because there is nothing worse than a slow, crappy internet. Having a fast and stable connection is paramount to doing your best work possible.
Potomac will pay up to $50/month for your wireless plan. We recognize that in a remote world, your cell phone is occasionally used for work purposes. While we encourage employees to unplug as much as needed, the ability to conduct business remotely is vital to the firm’s success.
Every employee will carry a Ramp corporate card in their name. These cards are to be used for work-related expenses. All expenses require a receipt that is uploaded and tagged in the software. Our expense policy is called, “Use your brain and have common sense.” We’re not here to babysit you, and trust that you will use the card prudently.
Don’t be a cheap ass and waste time to save a buck, but Potomac is also not going to fund your champagne and caviar habit.
With public health permitting, our goal is to have face-to-face meetups twice a year, 100% paid for by Potomac.
- Annual Advisor Conference: We bring together the entire Potomac crew, in addition to advisors, partners, and industry leaders, for three days of education and relationship building. The 2022 conference will be held in Pittsburgh.
- Employee Retreat: The entire Potomac staff will get together to plan our world dominance and have some fun. Each year we will pick a new city to explore. The 2022 employee retreat will be held in New Orleans.
Continuing Education Allowance
We encourage everyone to take classes that will help further their career ambitions. Want to become a better graphic designer, writer, learn to code, or get a professional designation?
Potomac will cover 100% of the costs (within reason) toward professional development.
